First up, something exciting is coming next week… I’ve been quietly working away on a creative project, and if you’re a contemporary fiction reader, you may want to keep an eye out. Think second chances, first loves, and a whole lot of Sunshine Coast magic. I’ll be sharing more soon, but for now, I’d love to know, do you read this kind of story?
In the meantime, what’s been sitting with me this week is how noisy the world feels. Every time I scroll, there’s another headline, another heated opinion, another demand to pick a side, even friends fighting online. It’s relentless, and honestly, it wears me down. Maybe you’ve felt it too?
When life feels like that, I find myself searching for smaller, quieter reminders of what really matters.
Like the little old lady I waved to on my walk. She slowed her car, wound down the window, and asked if I needed a lift anywhere. I didn’t, but I walked away with a smile. Her kindness was so simple, yet it left me feeling seen.
It made me think about how often we miss those chances. In the supermarket, heads down. On the street, earbuds in. At the café, scrolling on our phones. It’s so easy to pass by one another without ever truly connecting.
Today I had a little extra time, so after my walk at the beach (my sacred solo time, both exercise and meditation rolled into one), I grabbed a sandwich and an iced coffee and sat on a bench overlooking the water. A man was already sitting there alone, watching something on his phone, so I asked if he’d mind if I sat on the other vacant side of the bench.
Eventually, an opening appeared, and we shared a short but genuine conversation before I headed off to run errands. He was on his lunch break, soaking up some sea air, and we both agreed how lucky we were to have this beauty right at our fingertips.
It wasn’t a big moment, but it reminded me how worthwhile it can be to stretch just a little outside of my comfort zone. Even something as small as smiling at people on the walking track can brighten not only my day but theirs, too.
What happens if we choose differently? A smile in the supermarket aisle. A “good morning” on the path. A wave to the neighbour mowing his lawn. None of these gestures will change the state of the world immediately, but they do something.
They bring us back into relationship with the people around us. They remind us we’re not just individuals navigating chaos, but humans sharing space.
And maybe that’s what we need most right now.
Less division, more connection.
Less shouting, more smiling.
A deliberate turning toward one another instead of away.
So that’s my experiment this week: to notice the goodness. To offer the wave, not just the weary glance. To find my way back to connection in small, ordinary moments.
I’d love to know if this resonates with you, and if you’ve had your own little reminders of goodness lately.
